Breathe. Stretch. Namaste. How to Start a Yoga Club in Your Community.
Now that spring has sprung, it's time to gear up your apartment community activities for residents looking for more opportunities to maintain a healthy lifestyle and get active! One idea to bring your community together and promote a healthy lifestyle is to start a yoga club. Yoga is a popular practice for overall health and relaxation in which the focus is breath control, meditation and posture. There are many benefits to yoga, one being that anyone can do it, regardless of their age, gender or physical limitations. Yoga has both physical and mental benefits as well, such as increased strength, balance, flexibility, concentration and focus, all helping your sleep better at night and have more energy during the day. Offering these benefits to renters through a Yoga club is a great way to promote a healthy lifestyle and increase resident engagement and ultimately resident retention. Check out the steps...

Parent's Night Out
One of the best benefits you can give a parent is FREEDOM! Although I absolutely love my children and would do anything for them, sometimes my wife and I need to simply get away to retain our sanity! Plus, nights out with just my wife allow us to reconnect with each other to help keep our relationship strong. We recently joined the YMCA and found out that once a month they have a kids night out, where they will take your kids for 5 straight hours from 5pm to 10pm, giving plenty of time to not only go out to dinner, but also catch that elusive movie! I thought it was odd that they named it a kids night out, when clearly the benefit was for the parents. This would be an absolutely great idea to implement at an apartment community - a service...

How to Start a Running Club in Your Community
September is the perfect month to kick off a running club in your community – the temperature is cooler, your residents are back from vacations, and the best reason of all, it’s peak race season for runners. Whether they’re interested in training for a race, spending time with friends, or just looking for a great workout, your residents will appreciate your efforts of establishing a running club. In return, you’ll build positive relationships with your renters that will encourage resident retention. Here are a few tips to get you started: One of the first steps is to gauge interest in your community. You can do this by observing residents running outside in your community or in the fitness center, distributing a survey asking renters if they are interested in participating, or simply striking up a conversation about it with...

The Best Gumbo - Bragging Rights For Your Local Resident Chefs
As with any resident event, the key to a great party is knowing your residents. And if you know that they love to cook and hone their chef skills, this is a great event for your community! Although we mention “Gumbo”, it really can be any sort of food, such as burger, steak, pasta, etc. For the event, you will need to recruit resident judges who do a blind taste test in order to pick the winner. Of course, there is a big difference between simply naming a winner and making this an epic event. For example, if you have a kitchen in your community clubhouse, the winner most definitely needs their picture framed and hanging up until they are “dethroned”. If they are willing, their recipe should be included in the community newsletter. And if you are particularly gutsy,...

Establishing an off-site monthly dinner group is a great way to offer a value-added event for your residents with absolutely no cash outlay. I’m a big fan of resident-led events, with the office only helping to facilitate and get the word out, so here are a few strategies to get residents involved: As you set up the group, ask if any residents would like to take the lead. If it works out, you will get one person, or a few people to act as hosts at the dinner parties, helping with introductions. Once the dinner group gets started, try having a new co-host for every upcoming event. This co-host gets the privilege of selecting the next location for the group. This helps get attendees to be a part of the planning stage, and also ensures that they show up...
