Residents come out and have their own swap meet! Have racks and tables available for residents to layout clothes, furniture and household items to either sell like a community garage sale or swap items with other residents. At the end of the event, whatever is remaining can be donated to a good cause such as the salvation army or a local charity. This event goes far beyond just your average bar-b-que, but can really add a lot to your community. You can add additional fun and contests such as encouraging residents to set up their own themed selling area. Turn the event into a game where residents keep a tally on every time they make a 'swap' and whoever has the most swaps wins a small prize. Since exams are this week, we hosted a study party in our small clubhouse. We pitched it as an opportunity to study someplace quiet. We offered healthy snacks like dried fruit, trail mix, nuts and granola bars as well as some sugary candy. I think the biggest draw for our residents was that we also offered free coffee and energy drinks. In order to make the party as convenient as possible we extended office hours until 9 so people could use our wifi and printers for last minute studying. We will definitely do this again in the spring!

I may have posted this in the wrong category but the start of the football season IS a Holiday Event! So get out your team colors and throw a party for September 11th--kick-off day! Have employees and guests wear their team colors in support of their favorite NFL team. And what would a football party be without snacks! Chex Mix, Lil' Smokies, crackers, (beer?), and all the other finger foods that have become a football tradition! Good luck to you and your team!

Each year we like to kick off the gardening season with a huge celebration in our clubhouse. We have a community garden in which our residents can claim a patch of their own (either a 10'x10' or 5'x5' plot). We invited our gardeners as well as any other residents who want a tasty dinner and something fun to take home. During this year's party we grilled marinated chicken to accompany cooked asparagus, sweet and spicy sweet potatoes, green beans, watermelon, and garden-themed cupcakes. While the chicken was on the grill residents played bag toss and other fun garden-themed games. We poured sunflower seeds into a clear jar and had guests guess how many were in it (only two people were close!). We also had plants on a table which residents could try and name - everything from parsley and oregano to marigolds and okra. The person who guessed the most...
