Spooky Murder Mystery Dinner
Materials Needed: Indoor room, like a Clubhouse Murder Mystery script or plan (can be bought online for about $25) Invitations (electronic or paper) Halloween decorations - it is fun to be extra creative and get your maintenance staff involved! Lots of food (see menus below) 4 or more servers/runners 3 ovens (or more, if possible) Plates & Forks, Knives, Spoons - We used paper the first year and wanted to "class it up" to we went to Goodwill and St. Vincent de Paul and bought nice ceramic plates and metal silverware for cheap. We keep these items in our clubhouse year-round. Event: For the last three years we have hosted a Murder Mystery Dinner for our residents. We put invitations by everyone's door or send out e-invites about 3-4 weeks prior to the event, and we usually get about 60 (!) residents who attend. We ask for volunteers...

Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Just recently, I had a family member diagnosed with Breast Cancer. So this is hitting close to home for me. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. There is so much your community can do to help out! I gathered some ideas from NBCAM website and would like to share it here. Of course, there are fundraising activities, you can support a walk in your community to raise funds to donate to help with research, you can have a bake sale to help raise money, or you can just have a drive and try to get people to donate. But…there is so much more that can be done. · Does your community have a Breast Cancer support group? I am sure this horrible disease has affected many in your communities. Have a monthly meeting to show support for...

Trunk or Treat
This event was suggested by a resident to get us away from the same old door to door trick or treating. Designate a section of the parking lot to hold the event. Have volunteer residents decorate their trunks and provide candy for the actual trunk or treating part. Host games such as bobbing for apples, ring toss, corn hole, etc. We have ZERO budget for this event so we've asked our residents to donate candy, prizes, and decorations. It's already a success!

Let's Make A Deal Apartment Marketing Event
In a moment of inspiration today, I thought about the TV show, Let's Make a Deal, and wouldn't that be a neat concept to apply to a vacant unit for apartment marketing? As many of you might be thinking, "Huh?", let me explain. If you haven't watched Let's Make a Deal before, take a look at the video below, but the basic concept is that the show simply gives away prizes, but it is up to the contestant which prize they receive. A lot of times, there is a small prize or two and then a prize behind a giant curtain. As everybody knows, you can't just assume the best prize is behind the big curtain, so it's a game to determine which prize you should choose! So instead of a big curtain, why not use a vacant apartment as marketing? Why...

What is the MOST important duty of the host at a resident event?
So you have already reserved the community room, put out the E-mail blasts, door hangers and flyers, set out the food and drinks and your residents are now arriving. WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT DUTY YOU HAVE AS HOST? A) to make sure the food and drinks are full B) to ask them if they are going to renew their lease C) to introduce everyone and make sure they are meeting people D) to ask them how everything is in their apartment If you answered, "C", give yourself one of those chocolates you have stashed in the office... :) The purpose of resident events is to get them to meet other people, socialize, make friends and to have a good time. Extroverts will naturally talk to lots of people, but introverts and people in the middle sometimes need a little more attention. Help them to...

Our community is 3 story and this can be challenging for those who wish to participate in trick or treating and even more so for the kids the parents who have to climb all those stairs, in all those buildings. So we are doing a 5 to 8 time frame and doing it tailgate style. As the kids come by the club house we will be taking pictures and placing their names in for a toys r us drawing.

Fantasy Football for Apartment Communities
Over 80% of our audience to Resident Events are women, which means that some of you might have trouble thinking of events that appeal to the men on your property! I am here to help! Fantasy football is played by 19 million people in the US and Canada, so it has a very large audience! Even better, it is a game that lasts several weeks, inspires interaction and competition, and can foster real-world connections in a strong way. The basic concept for Fantasy Football is that participants “draft” real players to their fantasy teams, and their teams are scored based upon how those real players perform during the season. For example, if I have Peyton Manning on my team and he throws three touchdowns on a Sunday, then I get a certain number of points for each touchdown. 1) You first...
