Playing cards has a multi-generational appeal, from Bridge with older residents to Texas Hold ‘Em with younger residents, creating a card club is a fantastic way to involve your residents. And what’s best is that it is a recurring event that needs very little upkeep! First, get the ball rolling by setting up a tournament for whatever type of card game you are setting up. This can be done a few different times for different games, and will likely draw in different demographics depending on the game. For the initial tournament, set up prizes and publicize the tournament heavily. Encourage residents to bring outside guests in order to improve marketing efforts, as well! We can probably do a whole discussion on how to run a card tournament, so for now, I’ll limit the details on that front. But suffice it to...

Holiday Gift Wrapping Party
This is a great way to create an environment for residents to get to know one another while also helping them adhere to their Christmas budgets. Go buy wrapping paper, bows, to/from stickers, tape, scissors, and a few other miscellaneous wrapping supplies and set it all up in the clubhouse at your complex. Play Christmas music and serve Christmas cookies and hot chocolate while residents come as they please (open house style) and use free supplies to wrap their gifts. You can also use this time to play simple get to know you games or stimulate conversation by having prepared topics like having residents share their favorite Christmas memories. It would also be fun to have Christmas trivia questions ready to ask aloud for residents to discuss. You could even get kids around the complex (or kids from a kids club) to volunteer to help...

The economy hit our community hard over the past few years. We had residents coming in daily telling us of their struggles to even put food on the table. We wanted to do more then just a free slice of pizza every now and then, so we came up with a Neighbors Helping Neighbors Resident Food Pantry. The items donated by residents were made available to fellow neighbor residents in need. We used the frig and pantry space in our model to house the item, and as a bonus it made for a "strong sense of community" selling tool when prospects asked about it on tours.

Polar Express Pajama Party
Together our team put on a Polar Express Pajama Party. As you approached the doors to our clubhouse we created railroad tracks using black electric tape and we put up lights all around our doorway to create a magicial look. When you walked inside you were greeted by our Groundskeeper dressed as a train attendant. He handed every person a ticket when they walked through the door. Our entryway had a large train made out of heavyweight paper and glue. Using 250 cotton balls we stuck tape on the back of them and put them all over to create a snowy effect. Lastly we added tons of snowflakes, trains, and other small paper decorations around the clubhouse. When you walked in, we had all of our furniture set up like movie theater seating and then we pulled our two large rugs for the kids to put their pillows and...
