This is just a cute little game to play with some of the kids in your community. You'll need some supplies but not many and none that are too expensive! I would probably do this in conjunction with some other event like an Easter Egg Hunt, Community Barbeque or any other event you're holding! Here's all you need: String in different colors (balls of yarn work - buy a cheap brand and some Dollar Stores have it for $1.00)Small toys or prizes (Go to your local Dollar Only type store and stock up!)Paper with the word "START" written on it with a hole punched in one corner. Here how you play. Designate an area as the game area. This can be anywhere: your community room, the lobby of your leasing office, the playground (Inside or outside places work!) Find a starting point and...

Pajama Party Spa Night
We feel that each resident event we host greatly impacts our renewal rate. We do all we can to pamper our residents so that they think of The Edge as home rather than just an apartment. A recent fan fave was our Pajama Party Spa Night. We hired 3 beauty consultants to wax eyebrows, give manicures and mini-facials. We laid out a chocolate bar with fruits and had a dance contest with our Wii Kinect. Residents showed up in their jammies to spend the evening gabbing, eating, laughing, dancing and being spoiled!! Just another reason students ask “Do you live at The Edge?”

You Never Know With Louweza
Our resident appreciation event was on Valentines Day during the Revolutionary War. Our residents believed we were going to have a history event night. We started out with dinner and wine. Then coffee and dessert. During coffee the residents were able to purchase raffle tickets for 3 prizes. During the week I had hints posted on the board for the gifts. Which was fun, and the money we raised went to the residents fund. When all the tickets were bought, the residents now were waiting for the the show. They kept asking when it will start. I then said "you never know with Louweza and her schedule". In came Louweza, a 1890-1900 Madame, lady of the evening. She was very funny and told us what it was like to be part of the Revolutionary War performing her services. She flirted with the crowd and it was very funny. At the...

Box Maze
A box maze can be a wonderful event for children and adults alike. The materials are free and minimal assembly required. Where to find the boxes: • Appliance stores • Sears • Grocery stores Lay out your design: Once you get them all in the apartment, line out the “design” for the box maze. Just like most mazes, we have one main line that works, and a bunch of dead ends. You’ll need flashlights: Get little flashlights or glow sticks for people to go through with, it gets REALLY dark in there. Glow sticks and flashlights are very cheap from Oriental Trading. Assemble: You open the boxes up, and attach them with tape. Use packing tape or duct tape, and not very expensive brand – it typically takes 4 rolls to do an...

Resident Hoe-Down
We hired someone to come and teach line dancing, had southern food (macaroni and cheese, fried chicken, salad, rolls), and barnyard bingo. This event was so much fun and it was great watching everyone line dancing and having a fun time! Huge turnout.

All American Fun Day
The idea here is a 4th of July or Memorial Day Pool Party, but staying away from the typical large and expensive cook-out. This is a festive event with all-American treats and desserts perfect for an afternoon by the pool. Depending on your pool area, it is idea to set up two long tables on either side of a covered patio so they are facing each other with space in between for residents to pass through. Cover each with a blue table covering, and drape a large $1 American Flag from the Dollar Store on each as a center piece. On table #1, you will have an Apple Pie bar and fresh cut watermelon, and on table #2 will be All-American snacks. • Table #1: Sam's and Costco (as well as other supermarkets) sell large apple turnovers in the bakery section throughout the summer. ...

Guess Who Luncheon
I manage a 55+ independent living senior community. Our budget is very low for resident events but per our LURA we are required to provide regular monthly events and activities. I have become very creative with activities at a very lost cost to the property. Last week we had a Guess Who Luncheon. This game is a way to bring laughs and fun to a group of seniors who want to get to know each other. This is how the game works. We had each resident bring a picture of them in their younger years or as a baby to the party. We set up a table early in the morning, prior to the game with a poster board so they could tape their picture on it. Once all pictures were displayed the pictures were numbered. Everyone received index cards and wrote down the number with the guess of...

Angry Birds Game!
Sometimes it's fun to bring an electronic game to life! I came across this amazing party idea for an Angry Birds party and think it would be great fun for your communities. The Angry Birds game is really easy to build. Gather some residents together to help out with the paining and construction of the birds and the sling shot--if a sling shot doesn't sound like a good idea to you, try using kick balls for the birds instead or water balloons! Here are some easy to follow instructions for making the birds and the sling shot: Angry BirdsSling Shot Once you have that ready, all you need are some boxes to build the platform as the stage for the game. I think your residents will have a blast! Read more about the Angry Birds Party here!

Compliment Cards
We just did this to start our weekly team meeting and it was GREAT! I prepared nice large colorful index cards with each team member's name written on the back in bold colorful letters. On the front side I wrote their name to start a sentence that said " Milisa Crouch you are..." and I wrote one word or phrase that complimented that team member. For the meeting I handed everyone the index cards and we passed them around so each team member could do the same writing a word or phrase about each of their team members complimenting them. At the end everyone had beautful Compliment Cards stating how we all felt about each other. We laminated them and I encouraged them all the keep them nearby for reference when they needed a pick me up. They all loved it!!!! The...
