Craft Party - "Upcycling" Flower Pots!
We absolutely love the idea of craft parties for apartment communities, because it allows people to actually build something, which provides a bond between the resident and the community. Every time they see or use that item, they think back positively on the event, which is more powerful than most summer parties! We recently stumbled upon the idea of "Upcycling", which is great for communities that are trying to "go green". Basically, rather than throwing something out or recycling it, Upcycling means taking that item and improving it. This particular craft apartment party takes broken flower pots and completely re-imagines them into absolutely fantastic scenes! Mosses, ferns, cactusus, or other small plants, along with pot shards and pebbles, can be used to create these neat scenes with the broken pot. Talk to your local nursery well ahead to start stockpiling supplies,...

The ABC Game, Social Media Style
For those who have been on long road trips, you probably know the ABC game, where you have to spot each letter of the alphabet, finally getting to “Z” before anyone else in the car. Most of us know the pain of trying to get the dreaded letter “Q” when all you see are crops and cows! Well, this idea uses this basic concept, but applied to your Facebook Fan Page! The Rules: · Residents must take a picture of signs around town that include each letter of the alphabet, and post them to your fan page one by one. · Each picture/sign/location can only be used for one letter, so “Abracadabra Magic Shop” couldn’t be used for A,B,C, and D. (Also, multiple pictures...

Same Height Apartment Party
We try to keep most of the ideas on Resident Events in the “possible” variety. This one just might break that rule, unless we can find out where to find a wall of flatform shoe extenders! But we thought this was a quirky party that you all might enjoy taking a look at. As you can see in the picture, this is a same height party, where everybody selects platforms that attach to their shoes, so everybody is the same height! This seems incredibly bizarre, but how interesting would it to be 5 feet tall, and finally be on equal footing with everybody else? Or how about that 6’5” person that is always used to towering over everybody else, is now suddenly looking people straight in the eye? So yes, this is probably not realistic for a...

Two Birds - One Stone is a mobile clothing boutique capable of setting up at different locations. The boutique sells women’s clothing and hand-crafted, vintage jewelry. The store has a featured article in the June issue of Fort Worth, Texas Magazine. The website is www.twobirds-onestone.com This is an opportunity to provide a fun and affordable shopping event for your residents and/or employees. The boutique only need a small space to set up a few clothing racks and a table. All of their inventory is avilable for purchase right then and there! They can even bring a collapsible changing room if anyone wants to try something on, so that the restrooms are not occupied. The setup will allow residents to come browse and shop. Or they can just service the women in the office, perhaps on a lunch hour.

Welcome Back Twinkies!
Most of our event and activity ideas have fairly good staying power. Not this one! You have days to have fun with the return of the Twinkies, so have fun with it QUICK! Here are a few ideas to get you going: 1) Replace your office cookies with Twinkies for the week! People will think it is odd and delightful, as they probably haven't had a Twinkie in ages. 2) Replace breakfast on the go with Twinkies on the go! Yes, this is completely impractical as a breakfast, but tell them when they have that afternoon urge to get a snack, they will now be prepared. Something about giving out Twinkies to a line of cars coming out of the community just puts a smile on our faces. 3) Urge the community to get creative with a...

Rock Star Party
DRINK: Serve Rockin' Cocktails Give Jack and Coke a "roadie" spin: Blend up your own cherry slushie and set it afloat to cool off and sweeten up drinks. DESSERT: Let the Music Inspire the Munchies Create candy bowls themed by different music styles: "Indie Rock" rock-candy sticks; "Heavy Metal" silver-wrapped chocolates; and "Pop Music" lollipops and Pop Rocks. DECORATE: Hit the party store or scan eBay for blow-up musical instruments, old concert posters, and microphones and tambourines. Your old CDs and vinyl records can be cleverly reused as coasters and serving trays. Hang a Hall-of-Fame Record Wall Pull off graphic, colorful sleeves from your old LPs (or buy some at the flea market for a few bucks) and tack them up on a wall to make a scene-setting photo backdrop. DRESS: Rock a Star Look Come as...

A while back, we shared a goofy party activity where we created a modern day fun house like the old school curved mirrors. Today, we found out about a completely different type of fun house device, called a speech jammer! Basically, it repeats your own speech back to you, which confuses your brain and has a fun side effect of making it really hard to talk. So try setting this up at your community event and record residents trying to speak while it is “jamming” their speech! After doing some research, it seems that the results vary depending on the app used and the person using it. You can search the mobile app store for some options, and here is a Windows version. Here is an example of a guy trying to give a gun...

Cinco de Mayo Brunch
We were looking for a fun and easy Cinco de Mayo party idea this year and decided to go simple with a brunch. We contacted a local Mexican restaurant and had them cater. We mad a big batch of sangria and invited our residents to the party. We kept the decorations simple. Red/White/Green plates, napkins and tablecloths, a few pinatas from Party City and a sombrero or two for fun pictures of our residents. It was fun (and delicious).

Yappy Hour
If you have a dog park on property this is perfect. If not try a local dog park. You can always open the club house to the dogs but something outside is definitely better and somewhere that off-leash is allowed is best! Contact local vets, doggie daycares and dog walkers and ask them to come meet your residents, their pets and perhaps even bring gifts for the pups or coupons/info for the owners. There is little required for this event. You might buy some dog treats and/or small toys for the dogs but it's more about getting your pet owners to interact. Make sure to bring a camera to capture all the fun! 'Community' is going to the dogs!Join us at the Dog Park for a barking good time. It's all about the pups so bring...
