Community Blood Drive
Twice a year we host a blood drive through the American Red Cross in our clubhouse. The Red Cross provides flyers for the event, as well as sending many press releases. We invite all our residents and the rest of the community via Facebook, E-Mail, Craig's List, Eventful.com, etc. On the day of the event, only one volunteer is needed to register the donors as they come in. The Red Cross team handles everything else including clean up. Hosting a Community Blood Drive requires little effort, but the reward in unbeatable!

Looking for a way to connect with your local community? Start a community service cub for your residents. The club can start or participate in many local community outreach events. Thanksgiving is around the corner and many homeless shelters need help serving dinner. This would be a great way for your community to give back by volunteering as a community to server dinner. One of my favorite community outreach projects is collecting toiletry items to put in stockings for Christmas. These stockings are then delivered to a local homeless shelter. There are so many things that we can do to make a difference that it only makes since to have a community service outreach club for your residents. What are some other service projects we can do? * Originally Posted on FLY Apartment Leasing Ideas on Facebook

Resident Thanksgiving
Every year on the Thursday prior to Thanksgiving, we would prepare turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie and residents would bring in their favorite side or dessert. Residents would also be asked to bring in a can of food or non-perishable food item, either for a person or a pet. Donations would go to Northwest Harvest or Senior Food Bank.

Hobo Jungle
Bring your tin can and hand made spoon along with an extra can to echo to our Hobo Jungle. This event will start early in the week as we must elect a Hobo King and Queen for our Hobo Parade. Each candidate will post a poster saying why they feel they should be King or Queen and hang in the community room Monday by noon . (If no one enters I will do it for you and you never know who I will pick to put up on the wall) Election will be on Thursday at 10:00. Which ended up be Jackie Sanchez and Robert McCuthoen. The food will be prepared by Ron Ingalls, migratory worker. He...

Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Just recently, I had a family member diagnosed with Breast Cancer. So this is hitting close to home for me. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. There is so much your community can do to help out! I gathered some ideas from NBCAM website and would like to share it here. Of course, there are fundraising activities, you can support a walk in your community to raise funds to donate to help with research, you can have a bake sale to help raise money, or you can just have a drive and try to get people to donate. But…there is so much more that can be done. · Does your community have a Breast Cancer support group? I am sure this horrible disease has affected many in your communities. Have a monthly meeting to show support for...
