Every year we do a food drive starting in September - early November.
This year we are hosting a Stocking Stuffer For The City Rescue Mission of Jacksonville, Fl. We want our residents to get more involed in the community. What better way than to collect items to put in stockings that will go the City Rescue Mission. Our residents will each be given a box to take to their work, church, grandchildren scholls or anywhere to ask if we can set up a donation box. Once everything is collected we will then have a day of stuffing stockings with a light lunch. Our goal is fill 25 stockings. After we have all stockings stuff we will then deliver as a community anticipating 10-20 residents to the City Rescue Mission and have lunch with the homeless. We are really excitted about this opportunity. I should probably mention that we are a 55 and Older Affordable Community.
The economy hit our community hard over the past few years. We had residents coming in daily telling us of their struggles to even put food on the table. We wanted to do more then just a free slice of pizza every now and then, so we came up with a Neighbors Helping Neighbors Resident Food Pantry. The items donated by residents were made available to fellow neighbor residents in need. We used the frig and pantry space in our model to house the item, and as a bonus it made for a "strong sense of community" selling tool when prospects asked about it on tours.
