Create banners and signs to promote that your community is collecting school supplies. Have backpacks or lunch totes imprinted with your community name and fill with school supplies you have collected. Deliver backpacks to schools, homeless shelters, women shelters, etc. Be sure to advertise event on Facebook, radio, and newspapers. If you do not have the budget for backpacks you can imprint pencils or pens.
For the entire month there are events for the Relay for Life. We have a big yard sale so the residents can spring clean and all the proceeds go to Relay for Life. Then we have a craft sale and many residents spend time putting crafts together to sell. We usually have large participation and everyone celebrates at the walk. Great community involvement!! Win win for all!
Our residents in a senior low income housing project got together and make blankets for the soldiers in Iraq. Many of them were or had relatives in WWII or Korea so it was especially poignant for them to give to the next generation of American heroes. Fantastic event.
The children and adults in the community go on a hayride singing Christmas Carols while other adults go to the porches and collect canned items that the residents have put out for the hungry. The hayride stops at predetermined houses for hot chocolate and Christmas cookies. All the food collected is given to our local
food bank. The kids love it and it gets everybody in the mood for giving.
We have sponsored graduation at a local school. We have provided graduation pins for the students with their year of graduation on the pin. We have signage showing our sponsorship and everyone attending sees our community name. The students are proud to show off their pins.
