Resident Appreciation
During the past two months, our facility has had contractors crawling all over the place, providing many improvements which were awarded through the WEATHERIZATION PROGRAM. My tenants have been great through this period of renovations, allowing access for these contractors who installed 1) new water heaters; 2) new refrigerators; 3) new furnaces and air conditioners; 4) new windows; 5) replacement ductwork in the attic areas; and 6) blown-in insulation in the attic areas. The lives of my tenants have been disrupted frequently through this process, but they have been so cooperative and good-natured. Last week at the Rural Rental Housing Association of Kansas annual conference, I was awarded SITE MANAGER OF THE YEAR, nominated by my tenants and the board of this housing authority. That was a wonderful honor, but the ones who should be acknowledged are the tenants themselves, for their cooperative spirit through this time of renovation.

I want to have a TENANT APPRECIATION EVENT to let them know how much the housing authority and I (executive director) appreciate their cooperation and support throughout this process. We have made many improvements and the tenants are amazed at how much more comfortable they are in their homes, but that's not enough. I want to host an event where they feel truly appreciated and loved.

In my plans is a barbecue (either inside or outside) with some musical entertainment. It may be too late to plan this for Memorial weekend; I have not set the date yet or made definite plans. The only thing I know for sure is that I want to have an event to thank our tenants for their cooperation and support as we implemented the improvements under the Weatherization Program. I couldn't have asked for anything better from each of them.

Our housing authority is an elderly/disabled low income property in northwest Kansas. We have 30 units and NO VACANCY at this time. As director, I feel truly blessed by the great bunch of tenants who live here.
