Bugs for Lunch Hot

A children's event for Toddlers and Pre-school age. It is a luncheon for children and their parents to enjoy while learning about something all kids love to learn about - bugs! Supplies
Food prep, children's book, children's dvd, children's bug nets, craft utensils, children's coloring print-out

Detailed Description
The food is prepared to look like bugs of all sorts. For example, caterpillar wraps (deli and pb&j), flys on fly paper (cheese slices with raisins and slivered almond wings), lady bugs (cherry tomatoes with raisin spots and slivered carrot antennaes), caterpillars on leaves (grapes on sliced cheese shaped like leaves), critter crunchies for toddlers (cheerios, cereal stars, raisins, and marshmallows), and much more. Serve "nectar" instead of punch with straws that have flowers attached to them. Have cupcakes and place them in the shape of a flower.

We read "Bugs for Lunch" and looked for paper bees hidden all throughout the room with children's bug nets. We also watched a children's show starring 'Hermie the Worm' by Max Lucado. Children also received coloring pages of frogs who eat bugs for lunch!

This was a once a month event with several different takes on the idea. Each time we ate new food, and learned about new animals who eat bugs for lunch. What fun!

Creative or special ways to promote event:
We bought wind decor from a discount store of bright butterflies, and bugs of all sorts and hung them around.
