Spring Cleaning & Giving Back Hot
With Covid lurking around, it’s hard to get motivated to do anything at all. But spring cleaning is a non-tradition that people have been doing for decades, and there’s a reason for it. Spring gets everyone out of their post-holiday blues and excited for the summer to come. So why not take advantage of the uptick in moods and host a property wide spring cleaning event?
There are so many ways to make this go right, and if done correctly, your residents will appreciate the help and the push! Start by advertising one weekend as spring cleaning weekend, and get prepared for what’s to come. With participation comes a lot of work on the property side to make sure everything runs smoothly.
#1. Make sure you schedule an extra trash pickup and a bulk item pickup.
Once your residents start clearing out their home and taking things to the dump, it’s going to overwhelm your dumpsters faster than the day after Christmas. Some may get rid of old furniture, and some may have bags and bags of things they’ve just decided they don’t need anymore. Either way, if you aren’t prepared, you could end up with a lot of trash and nowhere to put it. Rent an extra dumpster and schedule pickup for the end of the weekend, or just speak with your local trash pickup about scheduling an extra day. No matter what, make sure you’re prepared for the influx of trash with nowhere to go.
#2. Offer complimentary cleaning supplies.
No one could ever say no to free cleaning supplies, and that’s one way for you to make sure spring cleaning weekend runs smoothly. Stock up on different cleaning items like sprays, sponges, rags and dusters for the residents that aren’t quite prepared for what a spring cleaning weekend might be like for them. These are easy to find in bulk at your local dollar store, and for what it costs, it’s totally worth it to help out your residents. As an added bonus, you know their apartment will be squeaky clean!
#3. Schedule a pickup with your local donations center.
Rather than throw out those old clothes or old furniture, see if you have a local donations center that could use the items instead. Collect everything from your residents after they’re finished, and schedule a pickup with the center so that your residents’ old items could still be put to use for someone else! It’s a great way to give back while also cleaning up and clearing out!
#4. Offer assistance when needed.
If you have residents who aren’t able to lift items on their own, or simply can’t haul multiple trash bags to the trash on their own, have your office and maintenance team lend a hand! It’s a few minutes out of their day, and it will mean the world to your residents who want to participate but may not be able to because of their own limitations. Lend a helping hand, and you’ll see how much it’s appreciated!
