Community Socials
For this community event, you’ll be inviting residents to take part in beautifying your property with plants! They can help with planning — and even get dirty planting — your seasonal flower and plant displays.
Many Hands Make Short Work
While management is responsible for final decisions on budgeting and buying plants, with this event, residents play a key role. They’ll help plan and design different plant displays and beds around the property.
Most communities have a gardening team or service in charge of planting and maintaining the property. If so, reach out to them and see if they would be interested in hosting an informational planning session with your residents.
Additionally, you can bring in local arborists, community gardeners, and nursery experts to talk about the needs and benefits of local plants. These experts can make recommendations about what types of plants to include.
Educate about the size of the space(s), give a budget, share a list of plants, and then leave the seasonal bed planning to your residents.
Residents can coordinate with your gardening team to design and plant the beds.
Include the Kids!
While teens and adults will make hard decisions, you can still include children in on the fun.
As a prologue to your planning event, encourage young children in your community to share their vision for your shared spaces.
To do this, have a local artist create custom coloring pages of your community spaces to hand out to young residents! Ask your young residents to envision and then draw their idea of perfect garden spaces in those areas.
Create coloring book versions of your planters and have small children decorate them with markers, stickers, glitter glue, and other materials. Hold a coloring contest in a few different age groups.
Brainstorm Ideas for All Seasons!
This event makes an excellent recurring event to schedule before each season’s planting. Planning for the next season also means that residents can pick out plants like bulbs to plant in the fall for spring blooms!
Residents will have fun showing off their green thumbs. Have a great time planning and planting your community’s green spaces!
