If you can't have a sweet heart on Valentines Day, then you should have a sweet. Each resident brings their favorite dessert, and they share the decadence!

Ice Cream Social
August is a hot month, so I told the residents that I'd supply the ice cream and they should all bring their favorite topping to share.     Photo courtesy of Per Ola Wiberg ~ Powi's

Anti-Valentine's Day Party
Just because you're single, doesn't mean you have to stay at home by yourself on Valentine's Day. Come out and meet your neighbors at this event! This is a great event for a community with several singles and young adults. Decorate the club house with black and white colors or anything anti-Valentine's (no red or pink). Have fun appetizers or a black and white cake. You can have the residents wear something black or white to keep with the theme. Or, they could wear all black or something along those lines. When the residents get there, give them a card with 4 or 5 questions on it. Have them fill in the answer. The object of the game is to find as many people who have the same answers and write their name down on your card. Whoever finishes first will get a prize....

I totally stole this from Kate Good's Marketing Webinar but I think it is a FANTASTIC idea! Find those residents who pay their rent on time and do something targeted specifically for them! Serve them dinner, take them out, show them you see that they make rent a priority! While you're at it, talk to them. Get to know them and you will learn what types of people you want to target for marketing--because you want more people who pay rent on time to come to your community. Think about the buzz it will create! Those people are going to tell their friends and coworkers about the special treatment they get just for doing the right thing.

The Biggest Loser
The Biggest Loser" is a popular television program that entered its 12th season on NBC-TV in 2012, portraying contestants losing extraordinary amounts of weight. It can be very motivating and has encouraged many people to try to lose weight at home. It has moved many to hold similar contests in their homes & communities. Organizing a "Biggest Loser" competition with friends and neighbors might seem like a challenge at first, but find some interested individuals and you'll soon be on your way. Send an email or letter or post fliers to invite individuals to participate. Choose and announce a prize to help spur interest in your challenge. Pick a start date and notify those who want to participate. Have a kickoff event during which you record each participant's weight. Explain all the rules for your contest. Weigh everyone once a week. Weigh the participants for the final...

Spoon Relay Race
We did this several years ago and it was a blast!  You split up your attendees into groups and make them stand in a line.  Then you give each team a spoon tied to a really long string, and each player has to run the spoon either up or down their t-shirt and pass it to the next person.  The first person to get the spoon all the way down the line wins!  I know it sounds silly, but that's kind of the point, right? The video below wasn't our event, but you can see roughly how it's done.  They went more extreme and made the people go through tops and bottoms, which may be a bit too much!  (Skip to minute 1:44)

Mardi Gras Party
New Orleans knows how to throw the biggest party in the world - Mardi Gras! Being able to taste the Cajun cuisines, listen to Zydeco or Jazz music, and see the bright colors is an activity many would love to experience again and again. Re-creating this world famous event in your community is a great theme for a great party. Invitations should be brightly colored and should encourage guests to wear official Mardi Gras Colors - purple, green, and gold! As the host, you'll want to be decked out in all your Mardi Gras finery--chose to decorate yourself with beads and a fun feather mask! The colorful colors of Mardi Gras, purple, green and gold, will decorate your party room for a memorable and festive occasion. Decide when, where, and how you are going to serve the food. New Orleans is known for its food...

Bunko Night
Game Overview Strictly speaking, Bunco is a game of dice, played in rounds. Players take turns rolling the dice and trying to accumulate as many points as possible to win each round. The game is played at tables of four in competing teams of two. Players score points by rolling three dice and trying to match the number they're supposed to roll for that round. They get a point for each die that rolls the number, and if all three roll the number they score 21 points. They also score 5 points for rolling three of a kind of any other number. They get to keep rolling as long as they score one or more points with each roll. Once they fail to score they pass the dice to their left and the opposing team gets a chance to score. During each round the teams at the Head Table...

Home Cook Meal
Our community is located directly across from Saint Louis University. Many residents are students. Once a month the staff cooks them a home cooked meal. We make plates to go and our resident come pick up their dinner.
