We serve a full blown Thanksgiving Feast for our residents the Thursday before Thanksgiving so that our residents can spend the actual holiday with their families. We get hams & turkeys from The Honey Baked Ham store. We buy some of their sides and I actually make some of them myself...with homemade cheese balls and pies. The residents love it.

I managed an apartment community for seven years. We sponsered a BLACK FRIDAY (DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING SHOPPING TOUR) for 5 years running. The 1st year we only had a hand full of residents go and we drove our own vehicles. The last year we had a bus of 50. We loaded our residents around 8am and drove them to the Jefferson Outlet Mall (about an hour away). Upon arrival the resident went their seperate ways (or shopped in groups). We met are the food court at 11:30am and purchased lunch for all. After lunch the resident went back to shopping. We all met up around 4pm for the bus ride home. This was a time of lively conversation about the days purchases. The cost was minimal (around $100.00) for the 1st few years. As our attendees grew and the...

The property where I live is having a contest for the best decorated patio/front door for Thanksgiving. A prize will go to the best decorated. Kind of nice to get everyone to participate. They always do for Christmas but not too many decorate for Thanksgiving.

A free Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner for all residents if they bring at least one non-perishable canned food item for the needy. Everyone has a good time and the pantry for the less fortunate in our community is helped.

Thanksgiving Around the World
This is the second year we are hosting our Thanksgiving Around the World Party. Since we have such a diverse group of residents living in our building we decided to get everyone involved in this event. We supply the main course (Turkey) and the drinks and ask our residents to bring a dish from their culture to share. We had such a great turn out last year and are looking forward to hosting it again.

We have sent out flyers to our residents informing them of a food drive to help our neighbors who are hungry. When a resident comes in to our leasing office to donate Non-perishable food items their name will be entered into a drawing. The winner will win a $25.00 gift card to a local grocery store so they can purchase a turkey or items needed for their Thanksgiving DInner. All through the year and especially during the holidays we like to reach out to help those who are in need. The food will be donated to Hands of Hope/St.James Episcopal CHurch.

The property will but the turkey and ham and the Residents will bring a side, salad or dessert to share. This is the first time we have done something like this so we will see how it goes.

We have community business that donate Turkey's ,churches and community residents bring the sides. We have muiltple properties so some of the local churches provide transportation to outreach center that don't have transportation which is located right across the street fron our main office. Different volunteers such as police Department , health Department, community figures and many others come out on Thanksgiving Day to serve our guest. We serve from 12pm til 3pm .This is a time for those without family or friends , homeless, hungry, to have a since of family.

We already have sign ups for green bean casserole, sausage balls, banana pudding, cupcakes, dressing, broccoli casserole and more. We are turning our clubhous into a room full of festive tables with candle light and holiday decorations. It is going to be a great day of fellowship and fun with lots of yummy food too!!!

When I started working at The Verge, a student property, I inherited this event. We provided a turkey "Thanksgiving" dinner for our residents. The admission to this event was 2 cans of food. Thus Turkey Can-Can. We donated the food to a local food bank in Chapel Hill. We purchased turkey, gravy and stuffing from K & W Cafeteria and made mashed potatoes and green beans ourselves. This resident event has been held every year at The Verge for at least 6 or 7 years! Residents and staff love it and we give back to the community!
