Yappy Hour
During this time of the year, it can be easy to get caught up in planning Resident Events which revolve around the holiday themes of November and December. This week’s Resident Event is not specific to any month or holiday, and can be planned any time of the year. In fact, if it ends up being a big hit amongst your residents you could make it a weekly, monthly, or quarterly event! This event is only applicable to pet-friendly communities but is sure to be a big hit! Let’s plan a resident Yappy Hour! How many events do you plan that include your residents’ pets? A "Community" Approach to Fitness
I recently stumbled upon a system called the 21 Day Fix, which is essentially a group fitness program that attempts to get everybody on the right track with exercise and nutrition over a 3 week period. Each person gets...

Tennis is apparently so passe, as Pickleball is taking the country by storm! Ok, tennis may not be on its last legs quite yet, but it is true that a quirky sport called "Pickleball" is becoming extremely popular, especially among seniors. The draw for seniors is that Pickleball is played on a smaller court than tennis, about a third the size, which means less ground to cover, as well as played with a plastic ball, similar to a whiffle ball. That means the speed is a bit slower, and is a great low-impact sport. Granted, all ages can play Pickleball, but it does appear to cater towards seniors and would be a great addition to a Senior Housing activity line-up. Here is a clip explaining how Pickleball works: We think this is an absolutely great...

Activity Lists From Outside Your Community
When you think about event planning at your community, you don't have to be restricted to events that you host yourself! Any community can leverage events in the area, but most communities simply don't. So by keeping tabs on what is going on in the surrounding community, as well as within your own community, you will be able to easily and inexpensively expand your event calendar! Just make sure to really understand your residents, so you can pull together a list that caters to their interests. Fortunately, a lot of areas already have published lists of special events you can use to flesh out your own idea list. Your local newspaper, city and community Facebook groups and fan pages, Pinterest pages, and a variety of other locations will help you. In fact, if you can put in some time researching to...
